A New Orleans teen who went missing was found dead near a Treme intersection on Sunday. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Tyre Smith, who was last seen on Saturday in the 4000 block of Duplessis Street in the St. Bernard area according to New Orleans police.
One of his closest friend’s posted to Facebook that he hasn’t been missing since Thursday night. Here have a look:
Smith’s body was recovered by investigators near the intersection of St. Ann Street and North Claiborne Avenue around 6 a.m. after receiving a call of a man down in the area. Smith’s death is ruled a homicide after his body was found with a punctured wound on his neck according to the police.
Cheryl Phillips, Smith’s grandmother said that it was odd that her grandson would be in that part of Treme because it was a remote location. “He would’ve never gone there by himself.” Smith and his five younger siblings moved in with their grandmother in May after their mother, Chawanda Smith, died when her breast cancer returned. Smith’s death is six months after his mother.
Phillips received Tyre’s glasses, which were broken, along with other items on Tuesday. “He was a very loving person, the kind of kid who didn’t cause problems,” she said. “He was just trying to fit in that big crazy world out there.” This is very sad to hear a person at a young age to lose their life. We’ll never know what a person is going through until something happens to them.
